Promoting Science Fiction Romance!

Heather at The Galaxy Express is launching a new post series this week: 1001 Ways to Promote SF Romance.

I think this is a fantastic idea. I’ve loved science fiction… well, pretty much my whole life. I was a bit late coming to like romances, but combining the two? Brilliant!

As a subgenre, though, it tends to get pooh-poohed by some SF fans who think that mushy romantic stuff has no place in their science fiction. In my opinion, though, as someone who cut her reading teeth on Arthur C. Clarke and his ilk, the romantic storyline in SF romance serves to shift the focus to character development and interaction rather than the hard science elements that often dominate science fiction as a genre. I like characters. I like science, but frankly I’d rather read a story that focuses heavily on the people involved.

Er… sorry, I ramble. Anyway, go check out Heather’s great post!
