I have really strange dreams. Those of you who know me personally have probably heard about the Manwich dream (long story short: a giant, non-anthropomorphic Sloppy Joe sandwich was driving a snowmobile). Last night, I had what just might be the most awesome dream ever.

The dream: I, along with hundreds of other people, had been kidnapped by this bizarre, reclusive man. He was supposed to be some kind of spiritual leader, but he was secretly a scientist, too. Most of the people he’d kidnapped had been thoroughly brainwashed, but there were a few of us who were new to the compound (which was a strange cross between a school and a cruise ship) who had resisted.

So we decided that it was time to escape, and take as many people with us as we could. We tried several different routes out, but the leader’s henchmen were too close. They started herding everyone (who were all dressed in formal clothes) toward the exits on either end of the building, and they told us it was time to go do… something. I can’t remember what they told us, but by this time my co-conspirators and I had figured out that the leader was going to use everyone for some sort of genetic experiment. We were determined to escape, so when the line got held up at one exit, four of us slipped away and went into the part of the compound that looked like a cruise ship. We wandered around there for a while, but no one paid any attention to us and so we couldn’t get help.

We made it back down to the ground floor, where there was a huge swimming pool that had been partly covered with this low stage thing. We heard from some of the guests that the leader was going to make an appearance and speak to everyone, so we blended into the crowd (which was easy, as we were in formal wear) and waited. When the leader finally came out and walked onto the floating stage, we saw that it was…

wait for it…

Tom Cruise.

[blink]

So the dream ended with me jumping out into the pool, pulling myself onto the stage, and punching Tom Cruise in the face.

I cannot even begin to express the awesomeness of this dream.

In non-bizarro subconscious news, I’m incredibly busy. I’m editing a literary journal for my department, and the issue is due at the printer tomorrow. So, I’ve got that to do on top of finishing a book about Lacanian psychology & children’s lit AND grading essays for the ENG 101 class that I teach. Needless to say, I haven’t had much time for pleasure reading.

BUT fear not, intrepid readers, for I have two awesome books waiting in the wings. As soon as I get a chance to breathe read, I’ll post reviews of Patricia Briggs’s Bone Crossed and Ann Aguirre’s Blue Diablo. I’ve just got to get through Wednesday. Keep breathing. All that helpful stuff.
