Introductions & Reintroductions
The Discriminating Fangirl has a few new faces, so I thought it would be a good time to make some introductions and some reintroductions as well!
The New Reviewers:
Stacy B, anthropologist, historian, individual of diverse interests, would like to be either a secret agent or a bookstore owner when she grows up. Finding an occupation that would encompass both would really ring her bell. In the meantime, she reads, writes, and has as little as possible to do with arithmetic. Stacy’s been reviewing for a few months now, but your esteemed editor forgot to make an intro post for her. Mea culpa!
Tarte Amandine, or Amanda, has loved to read since she was 3 and was a fangirl from the start. She has a B.A. in French and studied in France. This fall she will start her MLIS program at Kent State. She hopes to work as an academic or reference librarian. TA will be reviewing gay romance here at TDF!
The Old Faces:
TDF Pamela (yours truly), is the proud owner of an MA in English, focusing on children’s/young adult literature and popular culture. Because of her ample free time thanks to being gainfully unemployed, she reads voraciously. She also loves geeky movies and tv shows, reads comic books as often as she can buy them, and when she’s procrastinating, she enjoys playing video games.
The Bibliomaniac likes the weird and the strange, which explains most of her friends. Married, with two daughters, she has earned a B.A. in Literature and a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Her interests include reading and writing (of course!), gardening, poetry, comic books, herbalism, chocolate, tea, mythology and fairy tales, comparative theology and alternative religions, Celtic and darkwave music, role-playing games and LARPing, horror movies, hiking and camping, SF conventions, and the martial arts. She lives with her husband, her younger daughter, five cats, a dog, and a houseful of gargoyles somewhere east of Chicago.
Emily is a book nerd currently living in New York City. She recently completed a master’s degree at New York University and doesn’t really know what to do with her free time. When she is not reading, working or sleeping, she is planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
Finn is a fangirl that turns her nose up to tradition by being a mom who is actually cool – at least in her own mind. She also lives happily under the delusion that one day a knight in shining armor will ride up on a white horse, hand her a stack of comic books and sweep her away to somewhere she’s always wanted to go…a fantasy/sci-fi convention.
StrangenessAbounds may be more of a truthful moniker than the author will admit to — when she is not obsessively playing RPGs and arguing over what is canon in “The Legend of Zelda,” she is planning her next sushi outing. Erin “StrangenessAbounds” Leanne is a writer of both fiction and non-fiction and plays “editor” to other authors’ works. She graduated in 2009 with her BA in English and is returning for her MS in English in the Fall of 2010.
Wenchie, also known as Brittany, is a college graduate with a BFA in New Media. She is an avid reader of almost any genre that has a good romance plot to the story. She loves movies of all kinds (mostly period dramas if her dvd collection is anything to go by), anything Joss Whedon, tv shows, and comics. She games almost every day and has gotten very good at playing Left 4 Dead over the last few months. She loves dark chocolate, her cat Remus, and has developed a passion for growing Angel Trumpets.
WereGeek is reading 5-7 books at any given time, not including comics. These can range from alternative universe fiction to historical fact and from theoretical physics to Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader. She’s recently rediscovered the joys of Netflix, catching up on series like The Big Bang Theory and is slowly, counter to her love of the original Battlestar Galactica, working her way through the new BSG. But Dirk Benedict will always be her Starbuck. Her ringtone is the theme from Airwolf and she can kick your little bahookie at Trivial Pursuit.
TDF Pamela
The Discriminating Fangirl, who is more likely to answer to Pamela if you shout it at her, is the proud owner of an MA in English, focusing on children's/young adult literature and popular culture. She's now not using that degree to work as a project manager for a mobile app company. She reads voraciously, loves geeky movies and tv shows, reads comic books as long as she's not pissed off at Marvel, and when she's procrastinating, she enjoys playing video games. She can be contacted at t.d.fangirl @ gmail.com and followed on Twitter @tdfangirl.
