Game of Thrones April 17!

January 19, 2011 TV 4

Here at TDF we are super (!!) excited about HBO’s upcoming series Game of Thrones. It’s based on George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novels, and has terrific buzz coming out of the Television Critics Association presentation a few weeks ago. At TCA stars Sean Bean (Sharpe, Lord of the Rings), Peter Dinklage (Death at a Funeral both versions, The Station Agent) and newcomer Emilia Clarke (who plays Daenerys Targaryen) chatted with various media outlets about their roles. See the amazing Winter is Coming blog for video and more about TCA.

Now HBO has released a new trailer for the series that features many of the stars sitting on the incredibly dramatic Iron Throne set. What do you guys think?

Game of Thrones now has an official air date of Sunday, April 17. Who are you most excited to see on the series?

    1. OMGYAY IRON THRONE! It looks better than I imagined it, really – I don’t recall in the books it said it was made up of swords, so maybe I missed that part? I know it was metal and terrifying looking, all sharp edges etc, but being constructed of swords…that I don’t recall. So. Awesome.

    2. The top comment on HBO’s youtube page for this vid says “every time you ask where Dance is, GRRM murders a Stark” and I about peed myself laughing.

    3. It seems they’re trying to be more sympathetic to Cersei – which I don’t hate, but I’m curious about. They’re also…I don’t know, making Catelyn more awesome? I kind of hated her in the books, but from all these teasers, I want to like her. VERY CONFUSING.

    4. I’m most excited for Dany, Tyrion & Jaime, with Jon close behind. Dinklage is going to be ACES as Tyrion – I was thrilled to death when that casting news came out SO LONG AGO.

    5. OMGYAY and WHY 88 DAYS AWAY?!

In the books, it is stated that Aegon the Conqueror made his throne from the swords of his vanquished foes. (In the books it’s more like he melted them down and the chair was barbed, not actually swords in scabbards, but it looks really cool.) See, this is the stuff I can talk about in my GoT posts!

I had that LJ icon about killing a Stark. :D

    Chello!

I can’t wait to see Lord Stark. For whatever reason, I have a thing about the tragic father/mentor figure who gets killed off…Lord Stark, Duke Leto, old Ben Kenobi, Gandalf the Grey, etc.
