Dropping by to point you guys at The Hawkeye Initiative, which is one of the best things I have ever seen.
If you’ve known me for any length of time, you know I, like many other fangirls, get annoyed by the idiotic, anatomy-defying, sexually objectifying way that women tend to be portrayed in comic books. I’m not saying women in comics shouldn’t be sexy at all. I just want them to be sexy in appropriate situations (which are generally not situations in which the woman is kicking some bad guy’s ass). And I really enjoy it when artists riff on those stupid poses by putting male comic book characters in the same poses. Cue The Hawkeye Initiative.
It all started when Blue, an artist on tumblr, redrew a Hawkeye & Black Widow comic book cover to be more, y’know, realistic. (Clint is, after all, the acrobat.) Then Noelle (better known as gingerhaze) picked it up, and the rest is history. Hilariously awesome history.
