The Boys are back! Beware there are spoilers in my recaps and reviews.

Recap

[Note: My recaps are going to be a lot shorter from here on out, for full detailed recaps, check out SuperWiki]

What happens when you tempt fate and unsink the Titanic? One of the Fates (Atropos) gets pissed and starts killing off the descendants of those passengers who were meant to die on the boat. Sam and Dean live in a world where the Impala doesn’t exist, Bobby married Ellen, Jo is still alive and Dean wins at Rock, Paper, Scissors. Although Balthazar claims he unsank the boat because he hated the movie and the Celine Dion song that accompanies it, he really went back to prevent the tragedy to create 50,000 new souls at Castiel’s request. Atropos threatens to kill Sam and Dean so that Castiel will undo what Balthazar has done. The boys wake up, thinking it all was a strangely realistic shared dream until Castiel tells them otherwise.

Review

[spoiler show="Show Episode Review!"]

All in all, this wasn’t a great episode, but it had it’s moments. I wish I had some kind of strong feeling about it, but sadly I didn’t. It was pretty much filler – which there seems to be a lot more of this season. The show’s filler episodes always have a few funny lines or entertaining moments, but are only memorable for those things rather than being a solidly awesome episode. As always, anything Balthazar does or says makes me ridiculously happy. I think that he and Gabriel make up for the angels lacking the same kind of snark that the demons seem to have on this show. They could give him his own spinoff show where he just bounces around history being a flirt and messing with the timeline and I would gladly tune in every week.

The idea that Castiel would do just about anything to save the boys did make me happy. They really are a weakness for him, though it does provide something more to his character than simply watching out for them. Angels are supposed to be cold and unfeeling, but it’s obvious that Castiel does feel something to go back in time just to save them.

Next week is the episode that many of us have been waiting for – COWBOYS!

“My Heart Will Go On” is available now on iTunes and Amazon.

I agree with you about this being a filler episode, but I still really enjoyed it. One of my favorites of this season, I’d say! Of course a big part of that might have been the unexpected return of one of my all-time fave characters (RIP Ellen. Again).
    Nice recap/review, as always!
