The Boys are back! Beware there are spoilers in my reviews.

While searching for a way to defeat Eve, Dean stumbles upon Samuel Colt’s journal in the Campbell library. Realizing Samuel might have the answer to their problems, Sam and Dean ask Castiel to send them back in time so they can meet the man himself. While Sam is a bit reluctant to time travel, Dean is beside himself with excitement to return to the Wild, Wild West.

Review

[spoiler show="Show Episode Review!"]
I was ridiculously excited to see this episode and it didn’t disappoint – even on the second viewing. In an interview about the episode, Sera Gamble had said this episode was a “love letter to the fans”. I could not agree more, though a couple of the other episodes this season have been as well. The episode begins with Bobby and the boys going down to Samuel Campbell’s library to find a way to defeat Eve and end up finding Samuel Colt’s journal. There is a very early series moment where Sam and Dean geek out over the journal. Moments like that make me so happy. It feels like it’s been forever since the two of them have been like that. Cowboy stuff not withstanding, that moment was my love letter from the writers.

On to Dean and his cowboy fetish… I was pretty much squealing at every scene. A particular favorite moment was when someone comments on Dean’s “blanket” and he throws it off, pouting like “I don’t want to play anymore”. Poor baby! Another scene that felt so much like the early seasons was where Dean was approached by a cold sore-sporting prostitute and Sam tried so hard not to laugh at him.

I’m going to save my commentary on Castiel and his big bad secret for the next episode. However, I was a little disappointed to see Rachel be introduced and killed in the same episode. She seemed like an interesting character, but then again, no one lasts long on this show.

“Frontierland” is available now on iTunes and Amazon.
