[Author's Note: Sorry, I wasn't able to do a review for 6x20. Loved the episode, though!]

The Boys are back! Beware there are spoilers in my reviews.

Since they aired this episode and the finale back-to-back, I wrote down my thoughts during the episodes. Apparently, I didn’t have a whole lot to say about this one, except for how they wrapped up the Dean/Lisa/Ben storyline. When I first saw the promo for this episode, I groaned because “Braedens, again”. I know, I know, I sound like the annoyed fangirls, but I had been pretty over that plotline since about the middle of the season. It felt like a distraction, which did make sense because obviously Dean does care for the two of them, but I never saw the endgame with it. Lisa seemed to think the same thing, considering she told Dean to leave and return to hunting with Sam. I admired her character for that and liked that we had more strong female characters who didn’t end up horribly murdered.

The way they handled the end of this storyline was good, though I have to admit, a little heartbreaking. When demon!Lisa stabbed herself, I had to cringe because I was certain they were going that route with it and then Dean would have to adopt Ben and make him a hunter as well… or something to that effect. However, the turn that it took was better than I expected. Dean knew that the two of them would be better off never remembering him. No matter what he did, he couldn’t keep them out of harm’s way. So, asking Castiel to wipe their memories was the best thing he could do for them. His farewell speech to them was incredibly touching and the best way to end it. Though, I was surprised Sam took issue with it. It seems like something Sam would have thought was for the best.

Other random points about this episode that I made: I liked the real story behind Dr. Visyak actually being something that came out from Purgatory when Lovecraft and his friends opened the gate. It was a little disappointing to see her go because she could have been a nice addition to the recurring characters. Wouldn’t be the first time the boys worked with monsters.

No Cthulhu, show? I am disappoint.

s6e22 – “The Man Who Knew Too Much”

The wall comes down in Sam’s head and all hell breaks loose. Dean and Bobby are, for once, at a total loss on how to help him and are forced to stand by and do nothing while Sam breaks. The battle for heaven comes to a head.

Since I’m a huge spoilerphobe, I didn’t realize what the hell was going on for the first part of the show. I thought someone (possibly Cas) had wiped Sam’s mind. It didn’t even click for me that the wall in his mind had been torn down until the flashback happened. In hindsight, it makes sense considering there were cuts to him asleep in the panic room with Dean holding vigil. I guess I was just too caught up in the story and trying to figure out what the hell was going on to put two and two together. Jared did an amazing job playing three different versions of Sam against each other.

What really stood out about Sam having to put himself back together again is best expressed in this quote from shoreofmysubconscious on Tumblr: Sam loves Dean so much that he willingly took back the part of him that remembered Hell. Just to get back to Dean as soon as he could.

That right there is the heart of the Dean-Sam relationship. They will literally go through Hell just to save the other and we have seen this time and again. It’s why I fell in love with their connection in the beginning and still love it, even when Sam wasn’t Sam. No matter what, they always have each other.

I’ve seen a lot of very unhappy fans due to the turn Castiel’s character took. I thought it was kinda cool, actually and somewhere in the back of my mind, I think I knew that’s where the writers were going with the story. Who better to turn into your enemy than one of your closest friends? Though, I think that it will all turn out okay in the long run. Back when Cas was sent back to Heaven to be reprimanded and came back a cold little angelbot, he eventually returned to the Cas we all know and love. The one who goes against even the highest orders of Heaven to save the Winchesters. That part of him still has to be in there somewhere. That part of him loves the Winchesters and love is a very powerful thing.

Dean said that Cas was family and as I said before, Dean (and Sam) do anything for their family. My theory for how next season will go is that the boys will try to bring back the Castiel they once knew. If anything, this show is about redemption.

Additional notes: So sad to see Balthazar go, but there is a glimmer of hope (or perhaps it’s full-on denial) that he isn’t really gone. Whenever the angels are killed in this show, except for being blown up like Raphael, there is a shot of them on the ground with the outline of their wings. We never had that shot when Castiel killed him… and no one ever stays dead for long in this show. Wait and see.

I think you read my mind with this review Amanda. Redeeming an ‘Old Testament-y’ Cas would be a perfect thread for season seven,  bringing back the love-fest vibes that were absent for a lot of season six..
