I’ve been kind of on the fence about the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase II movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. I haven’t read any of the comics, and… well, to be honest, I’m still wondering how the hell a movie about a machine gun-toting raccoon got made before a Black Widow solo movie.
But the trailer premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live a couple of nights ago, and this is how you do a trailer if you want to get people interested in a movie.
It’s funny. Of course being directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt makes it pretty clear the movie isn’t going to be a serious film about a machine gun-toting raccoon, but I cracked up repeatedly during the trailer, particularly at Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s machine malfunction (just watch).
As a side note, HOW EXCITED AM I ABOUT ZOE SALDANA AS THE ALIEN ASSASSIN GAMORA? I’M CAPSLOCK LEVELS OF EXCITED.
EW’s PopWatch has a good breakdown of the trailer if you can’t watch it just yet.
And if I might be shallow for a moment, this movie is making me feel weird about my sexuality. I’m used to Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation. Adorable goofball but not really a dude I’d get all hot over. But look at this:
My goodness.
(I still want a Black Widow movie, though.)
Guardians of the Galaxy comes out August 1, 2014 in the U.S.
