Devil at the Crossroads by Cornelia Grey
The devil covets more than his soul ...Published by Riptide Publishing on Sep 23, 2013
Six years ago, Logan Hart sold his soul to the devil to become the greatest bluesman of all time—and now the devil has come to collect.
The irony is that Logan squandered his gift. High on fame, money, and drugs, he ignored his muse and neglected his music. And despite escaping showbiz in a moment of clarity, it’s too late to redeem himself. All that’s left is to try to go out with some dignity. Alas, the prospect of an eternity in Hell isn’t helping much with that goal.
But Farfarello, the devil who bought Logan’s soul, isn’t ready to drag him down to Hell quite yet. He’s just spent six years working his ass off to whip a bluesman into shape, and he refuses to let that—or the opportunity for more sinful pleasures with Logan—go to waste.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book nor the content of my review.
I received this novella a week or so ago and finally took the time to read it last night. It only took me an hour and a half to finish after getting a phone call from my brother right in the middle of reading it. And of course he called during the smut part, because that’s just how the universe rolls. Anyway, after I got back into my reading groove, it didn’t take long to finish and, I have to say, I really enjoyed this book.
Basically, this novella is about a man named, Logan Hart, who is tired of his life working at a factory shoveling coal into furnaces all day and playing small blues gigs at low-rent joints around town. So, in the middle of the night he makes his way to a crossroads hoping to make a deal with the Devil, but still skeptical about it all. And, lo and behold, a handsome devil appears out of thin air to make his dream of becoming the greatest blues player in the world a reality.
Since this novella is only 75 pages there isn’t a lot of buildup for Logan to get to the point where he wants to make his deal with a crossroads devil (who’s name is Fafarello, by the way, and I seriously kept thinking of Supernatural during that whole crossroads scene), but I never felt like I was missing anything vital to the story. Also, each chapter is either a six years ago chapter, or one focusing on what happens when his deal is up and the devil is collecting his due. And, let me tell you, when the devil collects it is smoking hot. That was the smut scene that I mentioned my brother interrupting. None of the books I’ve read lately have had sex scenes as good as that. And there wasn’t anything particularly risqué about it, but the way it was written, the sexiness of the devil, and the emotions we get from Logan just make that whole sex scene amazing, in my opinion.
My only complaint about this book is that it’s only a novella. By the time I got to the end I really wanted it to be a full length novel. It would’ve been nice to see all the times Farfarello watched Logan play and shapeshifted to disguise himself and have one-night stands with Logan, or maybe even see what happened after Logan’s future comes to pass and Farfarello comes to take him to Hell. But I get why it wasn’t expanded. Sometimes leaving it up to the reader’s imagination to fill in the gaps is a good way to go too.
All in all, good book, great smut, and a nice writing style that didn’t leave me unfulfilled. This gets 4.5 stars from me and I definitely intend to read it again when I’m in the mood for something quick.
