DIY Friday: Need a little help?

January 10, 2014 DIY Friday, Geek Girl Life 0

I’m just getting started in my own geekcrafting projects, and despite the huge number of tutorials and youtube videos explaining how to do things, I still find myself flailing around.  Sometimes it’s helpful to have someone actually show you how to do the thing, or at least it is for me.  I’ve signed up for a beginning knitting class at a local yarn shop in town, so I’ll be spending tomorrow afternoon knitting and purling and all that crap.

But if you don’t have a shop or club nearby, getting a decent lesson in how to do something crafty can be a right pain in the butt.

Enter Craftsy.

Craftsy offers classes, projects, and tips for practically any craft you can think of.  You can sign up for classes and view them using many different devices, and unlike an in-person class, you can go at your own pace while wearing your pajamas (or nothing at all; we don’t judge).  They even have apps for your iOS devices so you can learn to sculpt fondant on the bus.

If you’d like to try out Craftsy, they do offer free mini-classes in a wide range of crafts, from quilting to needlecraft to cooking and baking.  The classes range in price from $20 to $40 with classes going on sale all the time, so it’s definitely a reasonable option if you’re looking to learn some new skills.

So good luck with your crafting, geeky or otherwise!  In the comments, tell us what geekcrafting projects you’re starting up, or what kind of craft you’d like to learn more about!
